Where Has The Time Gone

I've ben at this damn blog for over 6 months now and I finally realized, where had the time gone? Tempus Fugit as they say or Time Flees, which it has. In the this time I believe I have expounded my thoughts passably at times, but lately I find myself conforming to the republican template too much, following Team Geppetto's lead in the malignant populism that both sides of the isle participate in, in order to manipulate us to their will. I think I have gotten away from my original theme which is of course freedom. Yes nebulous, sacrosanct, misunderstood and least appreciated, freedom.

I've often quoted Thomas Jefferson's definition of liberty, which is "that each individual has 'certain inalienable rights'...these rights exist with or without government; man cannot create, take, or give them away...rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add 'within the limits of the law,' because law is often but the tyrant’s will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual...though government cannot create a right to liberty, it can indeed violate it. And the limit of an individual's rightful liberty is not what law says it is but is simply a matter of stopping short of prohibiting other individuals from having the same liberty. A proper government...is one that not only prohibits individuals in society from infringing on the liberty of other individuals, but also restrains itself from diminishing individual liberty." Without this, everything else is meaningless, feckless, and irrelevant. Everything in one's life becomes a necessary tool for indentured servitude at the hands of someone else's power.

That being said, I have become a tool myself, to the templates popular social and economic fears. It's not that there is nothing to be afraid or that there aren't problems, but I won't assist some greater political power get back in power. At the very least politics is a fickle mistress who easily forgets who paid her way but knows whose door to knock on when times are tough. It's time to throw the harlot to the street. There is no right or left, just right and wrong. To that end I will be true to myself. Yes, there will be times when I will seem to insult, I will exact revenge with wit and a macabre yet dry sense of humor. I will piss everyone off eventually. Everyone. The one thing I will never do is talk about my work, or talk about family anymore. Everything else is fair game.

So let the games begin, to begin anew and begin they will. I may not post as often, but hopefully I will post better content and different as well. I promise that by my birthday I will publish at least one podcast. As always, thank you for reading my blog, and I hope you continue reading it, and I would hope to get a few more people on board. Thanks again.

THE OBAMA PRESIDENCY: HERE COMES SOCIALISM

THE OBAMA PRESIDENCY: HERE COMES SOCIALISM

By DICK MORRIS

Published on TheHill.com on January 20, 2009

2009-2010 will rank with 1913-14, 1933-36, 1964-65 and 1981-82 as years that will permanently change our government, politics and lives. Just as the stars were aligned for Wilson, Roosevelt, Johnson and Reagan, they are aligned for Obama. Simply put, we enter his administration as free-enterprise, market-dominated, laissez-faire America. We will shortly become like Germany, France, the United Kingdom, or Sweden — a socialist democracy in which the government dominates the economy, determines private-sector priorities and offers a vastly expanded range of services to many more people at much higher taxes.

Obama will accomplish his agenda of “reform” under the rubric of “recovery.” Using the electoral mandate bestowed on a Democratic Congress by restless voters and the economic power given his administration by terrified Americans, he will change our country fundamentally in the name of lifting the depression. His stimulus packages won’t do much to shorten the downturn — although they will make it less painful — but they will do a great deal to change our nation.

In implementing his agenda, Barack Obama will emulate the example of Franklin D. Roosevelt. (Not the liberal mythology of the New Deal, but the actuality of what it accomplished.) When FDR took office, he was enormously successful in averting a total collapse of the banking system and the economy. But his New Deal measures only succeeded in lowering the unemployment rate from 23 percent in 1933, when he took office, to 13 percent in the summer of 1937. It never went lower. And his policies of over-regulation generated such business uncertainty that they triggered a second-term recession. Unemployment in 1938 rose to 17 percent and, in 1940, on the verge of the war-driven recovery, stood at 15 percent. (These data and the real story of Hoover’s and Roosevelt’s missteps, uncolored by ideology, are available in The Forgotten Man by Amity Shlaes, copyright 2007.)

But in the name of a largely unsuccessful effort to end the Depression, Roosevelt passed crucial and permanent reforms that have dominated our lives ever since, including Social Security, the creation of the Securities and Exchange Commission, unionization under the Wagner Act, the federal minimum wage and a host of other fundamental changes.

Obama’s record will be similar, although less wise and more destructive. He will begin by passing every program for which liberals have lusted for decades, from alternative-energy sources to school renovations, infrastructure repairs and technology enhancements. These are all good programs, but they normally would be stretched out for years. But freed of any constraint on the deficit — indeed, empowered by a mandate to raise it as high as possible — Obama will do them all rather quickly.

But it is not his spending that will transform our political system, it is his tax and welfare policies. In the name of short-term stimulus, he will give every American family (who makes less than $200,000) a welfare check of $1,000 euphemistically called a refundable tax credit. And he will so sharply cut taxes on the middle class and the poor that the number of Americans who pay no federal income tax will rise from the current one-third of all households to more than half. In the process, he will create a permanent electoral majority that does not pay taxes, but counts on ever-expanding welfare checks from the government. The dependency on the dole, formerly limited in pre-Clinton days to 14 million women and children on Aid to Families with Dependent Children, will now grow to a clear majority of the American population.

Will he raise taxes? Why should he? With a congressional mandate to run the deficit up as high as need be, there is no reason to raise taxes now and risk aggravating the depression. Instead, Obama will follow the opposite of the Reagan strategy. Reagan cut taxes and increased the deficit so that liberals could not increase spending. Obama will raise spending and increase the deficit so that conservatives cannot cut taxes. And, when the economy is restored, he will raise taxes with impunity, since the only people who will have to pay them would be rich Republicans.

In the name of stabilizing the banking system, Obama will nationalize it. Using Troubled Asset Relief Program funds to write generous checks to needy financial institutions, his administration will demand preferred stock in exchange. Preferred stock gets dividends before common stockholders do. With the massive debt these companies will owe to the government, they will only be able to afford dividends for preferred stockholders — the government, not private investors. So who will buy common stock? And the government will demand that its bills be paid before any profits that might materialize are reinvested in the financial institution, so how will the value of the stocks ever grow? Devoid of private investors, these institutions will fall ever more under government control.

Obama will begin the process by limiting executive compensation. Then he will urge restructuring and lowering of home mortgages in danger of default (as the feds have already done with Citibank).

Then will come guidance on the loans to make and government instructions on the types of enterprises to favor. God grant that some Blagojevich type is not in charge of the program, using his power to line his pockets. The United States will find itself with an economic system comparable to that of Japan, where the all-powerful bureaucracy at MITI (Ministry of International Trade and Industry) manages the economy, often making mistakes like giving mainframe computers priority over the development of laptops.

But it is the healthcare system that will experience the most dramatic and traumatic of changes. The current debate between erecting a Medicare-like governmental single payer or channeling coverage through private insurance misses the essential point. Without a lot more doctors, nurses, clinics, equipment and hospital beds, health resources will be strained to the breaking point. The people and equipment that now serve 250 million Americans and largely neglect all but the emergency needs of the other 50 million will now have to serve everyone. And, as government imposes ever more Draconian price controls and income limits on doctors, the supply of practitioners and equipment will decline as the demand escalates. Price increases will be out of the question, so the government will impose healthcare rationing, denying the older and sicker among us the care they need and even barring them from paying for it themselves. (Rationing based on income and price will be seen as immoral.)

And Obama will move to change permanently the partisan balance in America. He will move quickly to legalize all those who have been in America for five years, albeit illegally, and to smooth their paths to citizenship and voting. He will weaken border controls in an attempt to hike the Latino vote as high as he can in order to make red states like Texas into blue states like California. By the time he is finished, Latinos and African-Americans will cast a combined 30 percent of the vote. If they go by top-heavy margins for the Democrats, as they did in 2008, it will assure Democratic domination (until they move up the economic ladder and become good Republicans).

And he will enact the check-off card system for determining labor union representation, repealing the secret ballot in union elections. The result will be to raise the proportion of the labor force in unions up to the high teens from the current level of about 12 percent.

Finally, he will use the expansive powers of the Federal Communications Commission to impose “local” control and ownership of radio stations and to impose the “fairness doctrine” on talk radio. The effect will be to drive talk radio to the Internet, fundamentally change its economics, and retard its growth for years hence.

But none of these changes will cure the depression. It will end when the private sector works through the high debt levels that triggered the collapse in the first place. And, then, the large stimulus package deficits will likely lead to rapid inflation, probably necessitating a second recession to cure it.

So Obama’s name will be mud by 2012 and probably by 2010 as well. And the Republican Party will make big gains and regain much of its lost power.

Free at Last, Free at Last, Oh Lordy, Free at Last

President Bush finally commuted the sentences of Ramos and Campeon. While I think they made an error in judgement in trying to cover up the shooting, I think the time the got and served was too severe. I wouldn't want to be a border patrol agent, especially with the limitations they have and the lack of support they have from the federal government. Their trial was a kangaroo court as well. Had they not tried to cover up the shooting and just reported it, they wouldn't be were they are now. All I can hope for is that they get their lives back and have some normalcy.

The Coronation of King Obama

January 20, 2009 marks the date of the coronation of Barack Hussein Obama as lord regent and high protector of socialism in the world. I for one do not plan on attending, watching or reading about the festivities. While some see this as a major triumph in our history, I see it as a major decline. We have elected a socialist that has absolutely no executive experience and served less than a term as a US Senator. The guy has more advisors on the payroll than Thorton Mellon in Back to School in a role that is the inverse of Mark Watson in Soul Man. This guy is the great pretender and comes from the most corrupt political establishment in the country. God help us because we won't help ourselves.

The Insanity Ratchets Up a Few Notches

Now the founder of the Global Warming Religion says that Barack Obama only has four years to save the world.   First off, predictions are generally wrong over 90% of the time. How could this mountebank possibly know anyone has four years to solve any problem, but to make the arrogance even worse, it is Barack Obama that can and has to do it. This guy is blowing pussy farts because there is a likely chance that capitalism can be replaced with socialism with Obama in the White House and democrats controlling congress. That's what the whole anthropogenic global warming hoax is about, that and controlling people's lives, which is the same thing. While the Weenie Hut Jr's in attendance will say capitalism destroyed itself, let me remind them that is was the social regulation that brought about this latest fiasco, not free market economics.

It's interesting that the same scumbags, like Barney Frank, who is one literally, denounced efforts to prevent the problems and they now blame the Bush administration. Henry Waxman guarantees action of climate change. Translate to mean pilfer more coin from our pockets for political and quasi-religious purposes. In spite of the evidence of the hoax, politicians seem emboldened more than ever to ram this down our throats. I have never seen a political party as the republicrats who seem eager, anxious and determined to not only drive our country down the drain, but roll over the will of the people, continue to amass and usurp more power from the people. We are getting screwed for the benefit of 545 people. Democracy? More like an oligarchy.

Little Green Men?

There are aliens on Mars all right, but not the kind you might be thinking about. It seems there is methane on Mars and it could only come from a biological source, so says NASA. I wonder how long it will be before the eco-terrorists weave this into the narrative of their most sacred religion, The Church of Anthropogenic Climate Change. I am sure we are some how responsible for this and the impact it will have on the Martian planet is immeasurable.

Good Bye Steve

The letter from Steve to his employees:

Team,

I am sure all of you saw my letter last week sharing something very personal with the Apple community. Unfortunately, the curiosity over my personal health continues to be a distraction not only for me and my family, but everyone else at Apple as well. In addition, during the past week I have learned that my health-related issues are more complex than I originally thought.

In order to take myself out of the limelight and focus on my health, and to allow everyone at Apple to focus on delivering extraordinary products, I have decided to take a medical leave of absence until the end of June.

I have asked Tim Cook to be responsible for Apple’s day to day operations, and I know he and the rest of the executive management team will do a great job. As CEO, I plan to remain involved in major strategic decisions while I am out. Our board of directors fully supports this plan.

Steve

I wish Steve Jobs the best and hope for a full recovery, but I can't help feeling the old boy took on a fight he can't win. He just looks like hell and hasn't looked well in a long time and I have to wonder if he's known all along and was waiting for the right time to bow out.  Steve is Apple Inc, and I can't imagine Apple without him. All I can say is get well Steve, and we'll see you when you come back.

Iowa Has New GOP Chairman

Another clueless snake oil salesman that will cater to the different republican constituencies, telling each one how he is on their side, he will take their money and when candidates do get elected, they'll continue to NOT to do what the party stands for or what its constituents stand for. That is why they have been losing in Iowa and elsewhere. The republicans can't win if what they believe, what they say and what they do are different things and going high tech isn't going to solve that problem. It sounds to me like a continuing dilution of the message and morals in the party in order to grab more people for their $upport. Good luck.

Samuel Adams said "If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen."

The problem with modern politics is that to use Steve Deace's comparison, they are all gangsters and there's not a crusader among them. Steve, there are times I love your ass and as most of the time, you are right. They want the power (and money) and screw everyone else. I don't see things changing here for quite awhile, and the republicans will have nothing to do with that change. I've seen it happen in New York: The predominant party will become so entrenched and comfortable with their own power, that they will become so corrupted as to eventually be caught in broad daylight by their brazenness and laxity. Ask Tom Gulotta and company how it worked out. Look at Isaiah McGee's cheesy smile. He's one of my councilmen, and yes, a groupie.

Bush The Cacasotto?

I never thought I would be calling Bush a cacasotto, but now I am. He denied Israel the ordinance and then the airspace to attack Iran's nuclear facilities, stating that covert operations would be better. Even Bush is afraid to pull the pin, or open the bottle and let the genie out, as it were. Basically, Bush has let both North Korea and Iran become nuclear powers. Thank you George Bush. Something I am sure the democrats will put in the plus column in the future.

I bet the top greenie assholes know this, and that's why they are getting crazier about doing something: They want to try to synchronize the cool down with measures they are taking to take credit for doing something they had no measure in anyway in order to create there own socialist political hegemony. Expletives Not Deleted

It seems the right guy has been admonished for his liberal use of expletives of late. Normally I would plead Nolo Contendere, but judging from the evidence I suppose a guilty plea is more fitting. Should I throw myself on the mercy of the court? Of course if I plead guilty I will have to elocute my crimes before the court, and in this case that would be too much. I will state for the record that I have used the F word of late in my posts. Guilty as charged. Should I get a suspended sentence? I'll try to be a good boy your honor.

Mid-West Pragmatism: The Response

I received a response from Brian Gongol Earlier in the week. I apologize for not getting back to Brian and anyone else in regards to this subject. I will furnish below Brian's email in it's entirety and I will respond where I feel appropriate. Thank you Brian for responding to me.

"appreciate that you were listening yesterday, but I'm disappointed that you chose to criticize without digging a little deeper. In the process of comparing me to a pedophile and calling me a moron, you suggested outright that I would like the idea of putting GPS trackers on cars.

It just so happens that I wrote an essay four years ago proposing an alternative to the gas tax that specifically avoids the use of liberty-eroding GPS trackers:

http://www.gongol.com/research/economics/replacinggastax/

For what it's worth, I suspect that you and I probably agree on a lot. But it's really hard to be an advocate for small government when my own supposed comrades are out there saying "then again may be he likes grabbing his ankles". You're free to say whatever you like, but I'll invite you to name one person in local radio who tries harder to advocate for liberty than I do.

- Brian Gongol

-----
Brian Gongol
Host, "The Brian Gongol Show" and "WHO Radio Wise Guys" on Newsradio 1040 WHO
www.gongol.com"

First off, I will say that my sense of humor has escaped Mr. Gongol (Unless you know me or hear me, this is understandable). Being from NY and having such comic influences as Carlin, Pryor, Hackett, and Clay, I will say my sensibilities are probably a little different than most people west of the Hudson River.

I will admit I only get about 15-20 minutes to listen to what is normally the Steve Deace Show. That afternoon, what I did hear was Mr. Gongol's equivocation on the subject of a carbon tax vs. an increased fuel tax. I would think unless you are left of center, a socialist or subscribe to Keynesian economics, I would think that most people, Mr. Gongol included, would eschew a carbon tax from the standpoint that man caused global warming is rubbish. From what I have heard from him in the past, I have discerned that he is indeed an educated man. I will put forth this to Mr. Gongol: You said someone has to pay for it. How about calling for fiscal responsibility and cut backs? I am not an economist, my background is American History and Information Technology, but it would seem to me that not only are we spending more that we take in, but we are borrowing more to pay off the debt. While raising taxes is one way to solve the problem, the problem I have is that taxes are a tithe and based on where the money goes, an unwanted one. Moreover, in order for me, or anyone else to pay taxes, we have to work. Work takes time and time is a commodity that is both limited and the amount we have we never know and we can never get back once it is gone. To that extent, I see compulsory taxes, no matter how well intentioned or done "for the greater good" to be a form of indentured servitude. We cannot spend our way of of debt, and it is egregious to burden ourselves and future generations with more debt and taxes. To me, the trade off is not worth it, but then again, I am probably an anachronism. Most people seem to be fine with being bribed with their own money, labor and therefore time.

As far as who fights for liberty more than you? I don't listen to local radio all that much as I find it boring, with the exception of Steve Deace and J. Michael "Mac" McCoy. Steve would be more liberty oriented if Jesus didn't get in the way, and Mac can be just nuts. More than me. When I think of proponents of liberty, I think of Thomas Paine, Thomas Jefferson and Samuel Adams. I also like Robert Nozick and Ayn Rand (if I were an economist, I'd probably think of Hayek, von Mises and Friedman). Who do you think of when you think of liberty? Thank you for responding to my post, I appreciate it.
